Natalie & Ethan – Texas Backyard Wedding

What to say about Natalie May? (Ha that rhymed!). I went to high school with her – and we all describe Natalie with the same word – sunshine! Literally, a ray of light. One of the sweetest people I have had the privilege of knowing. And when she went off to college – she would come back and tell us stories about her boyfriend, Ethan. How he loved One Direction – just like her, loved the Lord – and treated her so, so well. And we all knew – this is gonna be the boy she marries.

Natalie and I spend a summer day last year drinking coffee and catching up – and talking about how she thought her and Ethan would get engaged soon. And then, a couple weeks later – he popped the question!

They were supposed to get married in this beautiful barn venue, but COVID changed their plans. And they decided to get married at Natalie’s childhood home – in the backyard. Natalie was the most gracious bride – and instead of dwelling on changed plans, she realized how special it would be to marry the boy she loved, at the house she grew up in.

And the wedding was more special than I think any of us could have imagined. Nat and her girls spent the morning by the pool – reading, having chicken fights, and writing her vows poolside. The got their hair and makeup done in Natalie’s living room and she had the cutest first look with her girls. Her parents pulled her aside for a moment – just to talk and take in the day. I think that’s what I loved so much about the day – no one was in a rush. And everyone was truly present.

The boys tossed Ethan in the air, and the girls jammed to music – and Natalie and Ethan were wed in the prettiest backyard ceremony I have ever seen. She walked down the aisle to Harry Styles (another rhyme!) and they both recited their own vows. They ate family styles in tents with their closest friends & fam. And then got down on the dance floor! And Natalie’s parents surprised them with an epic firework show! We were so lucky to be a part of this wedding and to call Natalie & Ethan our friends. This was one of my favorite days of the entire – and a great reminder of why I love this job so much.
